8 Steps to get you started
There are a number of steps I always follow when optimizing a site for SEO (note these are just the high points, there are others that I don’t mention here, but these WILL take you a long way):
1) On a new site, I will include the keywords in a non hyphenated domain name (if you can get a .edu or .gov TLD snap it up, otherwise a cheap .info will work just fine)
2) If possible, I will rename the URL to each money page to include the main keyword for that page.
3) Set up Google Analytics for the site and ensure the tracking script is added to every page (if not already done).
4) Go through the “money” pages and make sure that the title, descriptions and keywords meta tags are different and optimized for the keywords on the page. In a competitive niche (over 1 million result pages in Google), I would limit the keywords to one main phrase, a couple of local modifiers and one or two more closely related terms per page.
5) Comb through the non-money pages (i.e. pages you don’t care about from an SEO perspective) and ensure the title and meta description tags are not duplicates of any of the money page tags. Google Webmaster tools will identify this for you once your site has been registered.
6) I nofollow any links to overhead pages from all of the pages on the site with the exception of the home page. I leave the home page links as follow links, since I want the SEs to index all pages on the site and having privacy, contact, disclaimer, etc overhead pages enhance Google’s view of the “trust” for the site. On all other pages I just want the link to the home page to be a follow link, so I can build up the page rank of the home page. I handle this in Dreamweaver by using two different site templates. If your main keyword page is something other than the home page, modify your approach accordingly.
7) I then optimize each page’s content for it’s main keyword, etc. It’s important that each word or phrase used in the keyword META is found somewhere on the page to avoid keyword spam issues.
At this point the on page optimization is complete enough to start with link building. As you may already know, building links is tough. I use articles, blog posts, submit forms on relevant sites, reciprocal links, etc. There are ways to short cut this process, without going black hat. Article Marketing Plan: How Do I Create One?
Article Video Robot: Turn your articles into video for just 0.97 cents!
Article Marketing Key Steps:
Article Marketing is a excellent way to get free Search engine traffic . The key is having a solid article marketing plan. You need to set a goal of writing and submitting at least one article per week to have any impact on your website traffic. You must follow through and stick to your guns and make sure you publish the number articles you have set in your plan for each month.
My article marketing plan calls for to write and submit 1 article per week for my fishing site, now some weeks I write more, but never less than 1 per week. You are probably thinking why only one article a week , why write and submit dozens of articles a week? Well you need to understand you are building a foundation for your business so quality of your articles is key to building a on-line respectability. Remember your goal to be recognized as a expert in your Selected niche market.
Also article marketing is not a quick hit marketing technique that will get you 1000’s of hits to your website. Your traffic will grow gradually over time. There are no guarantees on how much website traffic you will receive but I can guarantee that the traffic you do receive will be highly targeted and that is best kind of website traffic you can receive. Just for example I have been using my article marketing plan for approximately two years now. My plan has been very successful and I have doubled my sales through my fishing site over this time.
Now let’s get to the meat of my article and look at key steps that are needed to make your article marketing efforts successful.
#1 Identify your “niche” market. Do not waste your time starting to write articles until you have completed this step. The more specific you are when you identify what you want to write about the better success you will have.
#2 Based on what you have chosen as your “niche market” you will now need to create a list of keywords that are associated with your selection. This list should be no less than 50 keyword phrases. These words need to be associated with the “niche” market you have chosen. {I do not recommend you start out targeting single keywords, select keyword phrases about your niche that are two and three words in length. Concentrate on using keyword phrases that are two and three words in length.} The reason I say this is because writing articles that concentrate using just single keywords are very hard to get listed on search engines. It is much easier to get listed with two and three keyword phrases. If you have a low advertising budget, like most of us, I would like to suggest an excellent free keyword phrase generator that is offered by Google adwords. This service is free and you do not need to deposit any money. Type in a single keyword that is associated with your “niche” market. Adwords will generate a list of two and three keyword phrases for you. Make sure you download or copy this list for future use when you are writing your articles.
#3 Start writing articles that use some of the keyword phrases from your list . I typically will focus on using three different phrase for each article. As a rule of thumb I try to write articles that concentrate on three keyword phrases. Each new article I write concentrates on 3 new keyword phrases or a variation of existing ones I have used. When you are writing your articles make sure that you do not repeat your keyword phrase but every 100 words. For example, if I were going to write an article that included “crappie fishing” in my first paragraph , then I could not repeat this phrase for 100 words. There are some twists you could use like mixing it up and instead of using “crappie fishing you could use “crappie angling” Its up to you. Just don’t repeat the same phrase in a 100 word count, the search engines penalize you for doing so and your article will not score well. There are ways to write your article using key word phrases without compromising the quality of your article so always proof read your article at least several times before publishing.
#4 Create a list of article directories to submit your article too. All article directories are not created equal so I suggest you use the following simple steps list the sites you want to submit to in a priority by Google ranking sequence. To get a listing of directories just do a search using the key word “article directory” as your search term. The results will give you 1000’nds of sites to use in your list development. There are two sites you must put on your list right now and they are ezinearticles.com and searchwarp.com. I use a free Google ranking tool that is simple to use to locate each sites ranking. Just go to Google and do a search using the keyword phrase “Google website ranking tools” this should bring up a list of sites that offer this tool. Or you can contact me and I send you the link to the tool I use. Just a note when developing a list use sites with rankings of 6,5,4,3 first, these sites will get you some traffic over time.
Well folks that should do it! Good luck with your article marketing efforts may success come your way!
